We have now been officially been told that BC naturopathic physicians who passed the Pharmacy Updating course and qualified for certification will be able to prescribe medications on Tuesday, September 7th, 2010.
This is a historic occasion for the profession in BC and for me personally. As many of my patients and friends already know, I have had these same rights under my Washington State ND license when I practiced in Seattle, but couldn't use them to provide my patients here with many of the medicines (including high-dose vitamins) they needed, which was frustrating. Now I can offer these therapies as part of our overall care at Westshore Wellness.
Prescribing is an important step in the process of helping ND's provide the full range of primary care services to patients. We are hoping to have clarification of our rights for appropriate laboratory and diagnostic testing soon, which we are being told is part of ongoing discussions between our College and the BC Ministry of Health. I will post more information as we receive it.
If you have any more questions, please feel free to call my office at (250) 478-4734.

Prescribing rights coming in September!
Thought I'd pass along that I have received word that I am now eligible to apply for prescriptive authority in BC.
Relieved that this 5 month process will soon be at an end and I will be able to help patients who need prescription medicines starting very soon.
Will keep everyone posted as to when we are up and running and will be able to offer this additional service.

Dr. Marianne is now Board Certified in Chelation Therapy
Just letting everyone know that I have received my official certification in chelation therapy through the International Society of Chelation Technicians.
Chelation therapies are very helpful for people who are dealing with health problems from chronically high levels of heavy metals such as mercury, lead and arsenic.
My primary focus right now is on using oral chelators such as DMSA and DMPS, which I think are safer and less invasive therapies than IV chelation, particularly for children under 18.
I'm excited to be able to offer this therapy to my patients in BC.
For any more questions about chelation and whether it might be helpful for you or your child, please call me at my office at (250) 478-4734.

New Allergy treatment available at Inspired Health!
Polleguard is a newly introduced sublingual allergy drop in Canada. It works by delivering a low dose of the allergen at frequent intervals (usually twice a day) to build up the body's tolerance over time.
Sublingual therapy for allergies has been used extensively in Europe for over 15 years and is recognized by the World Health Organization as an effective treatment for allergies.
We are pretty excited at offering this new treatment at Inspired Health. It's both safe and effective and helps treat allergies permanently. After we test in-office for the common allergens treated by PollenGuard--cats, trees, grasses, weeds, and dust mites--patients can start therapy right away and continue taking the drops at home.
Some patients will start to notice an effect within a week or two, although we recommend several months of treatment to build up lasting tolerence.
For more information on PollenGuard, check out their website: www.pollenguard.com
For further questions or to schedule a visit, please call our office at (250) 714-0721, or drop us a line at office@inspired-health.ca
